Final Major Project - Wake Up and Smell the Coffee *NOW WITH BULLSHIT MACRO SHOTS*

Assessing the Starbucks brand and how they operate. Essay published in a book form, posters responding to my own personal thoughts about the brand overlaying the Starbucks mission statement and a bastardised coffee sleeve for the consumer to use.

(Obligatory Proces Book)

First stage of my fmp (final major project) It included my process book, Cd of my presentation, a handout for my presentation and a ‘thoughts book’ (not pictured)

I’m looking at deconstructing brands to assess whether or not they actually care about social responsibility or they merely ‘green wash’ their brand. I’m currently still researching methods of communication, final outcomes and narrowing down this subject area. I really wanna fuckshitup, have fun and poke fun.

Stay tuned.

I think I’m at the stage where I can take the piss out of my former-self

RIP to the master.

RIP to the master.

My final posters and process book for the D&AD Studio Output brief to design a typographic poster for the Ministry of Sound. The idea behind this was to capture the atmosphere of a club and club culture then to communicate that in a visual form. I focused on the darkness, light projection and drug usage within clubs. I think it paints a more honest view of what they are actually like, or what I’ve experienced them to be.

I’d write in more depth, but it’s not that interesting.

whoosh, finally finished this project, going to print tomorrow. Here is one of my 3 posters for the Ministry of Sound brief, it works on the bases that clubbing would never be described as ‘funny’, nor would it ever tell a joke. You could say it is without comic. Comic Sans.

IDEAAAAAAAAS

Basically, my course (Graphic Communication, UCA) is currently fundraising for our 3rd year show and one of the ideas is to sell 10 different prints at £10 each. The idea being, we end up with a lot of cool prints that people would want to buy. We’re planning on getting a stall at the Designer Makers Market and selling there, however this doesn’t reach everyone. I sometimes get ‘asked’ on tumblr if I’m selling something or printing something and I rarely do, but I will print to order and ship ANYWHERE. So what I propose is either look through anything you might of ‘liked’ of mine and feel free to ask me for one, alternatively you can suggest which designs you think would sell or you would buy if you came across it in a Design fare.

This is a stab in the dark ‘cause I really don’t have that many followers, but if you reblog or spread the word that’d be great. It’s all going to a good ‘cause and would make me a happy chap.

Head to ‘Archive’ section on my blog to see everythinggggg

Danke.

My final project of the year Ethics & Issues

Bit of a half and half with this one, I am happy with how much I’ve achieved considering I did very little work over the easter holidays but I’m unhappy for two reasons. One being that I know I could have achieved all of what I had planned if I had worked more and two I’m disappointed that the whole ‘ethics and issues’ were lost for the sake of ‘prettiness’. We spent a lot of time refining our designs but not considering the subject of the brief, it became a branding/identity project rather than ethics and issues project.

However, I like that I’ve mixed different finishes, from de-bossing to foiling but at the end of the day the project was rushed and I’ll just have to wait for my mark.

In the mean time, feel free to grade this Tumblr. You seem to be more generous than tutors.

Year 2. End.

What I produce from my month of work experience. I worked at an architect firm and part time at a graphic design studio, I am still working one day a week there whilst I’m at university. At the architect firm I was basically an artworker, not that exciting. But whilst it was a bit repetitive it allowed me to observe how they run a business and how their external designer communicates with them. My second placement was at Karoshi, a multi discipline graphic design team. Basically, two cool guys who know their shit. I actually found them through Tumblr, so I guess my blog serves more of a purpose than I first imagined. I am enjoying working with them and learning a lot.

As for the images, they show my diary and record of my events on my work experience, a small slip to hold my 1000 word report and my placement’s feedback and I also did some information design based on the songs I listened two during my commute. I did this because I had quite a bit of downtime and commuting is a pain in the arse, but must be done.

I had to present this to my tutor along with a ten minute presentation about what I did and learnt. Tutor loved my poster and presentation, but I still only got a mid-ranged 2:1.

Content, but confused.

The result of my second brief of the year.

A 3D poster made to promote the typeface ‘Univers’.

Accompanied by a sketch book and process book, both french folded, and a CD case. Complete with my hand-made 3D glasses.
